The author of these funny photos of insects below is Igor Siwanowicz, a Polish photographer. Igor was born in 1976 in Krakow, Poland. He was studying biotechnology at the Jagiellonian University from 1995 to 2000. The last years of studying were spent in Aarhus, a Danish city, where Igor wrote a degree work to become a Master of Science. In 2001 he entered the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (Germany), and then he even worked as an assistant there.
After receiving his doctorate in biochemistry, Igor decided to become a photographer. Besides, he was born in the family of two biologists, so all the rooms at home were full of illustrated atlases and albums, that`s why the boy has always felt a strong attachment to the images of nature and animals. But only in 2003 Igor bought the first digital camera “Canon 10D”, and finally felt that he was a photographer, but not just a viewer.
Igor Siwanowicz has got unusual views about photographing animals, so only he can explain them:
“I try to show my models from a purely personal point of view. My photos are an attempt to answer a purely hypothetical question: what kind of pictures insects and other small animals would like to see in such magazines like “Repti-Gala” and “PlayBug”. I focuse my attention on those living beings, which people usually dislike and avoid, because these insects are not fluffy and warm-blooded animals. But, certainly, I began working with them not because of this. I am interested in their strange, alien appearance. Insects are very unusual creatures, that resemble aliens from other planets, and the closer you approach them, the stronger this impression is. Reptiles, in their turn, demonstrate their marvellous, baroque structure, scales, horns and hypnotic eyes. Toads are also full of charm and grace, even in their sticky and slime way”.
You can see yourself, that his photographs are truly fascinating.
